MIDI File Problems:

All I can hear is the Drum Track.

Some MIDI files that you download from the Internet contain a Continuous Controller Bank Select (CC0) which instructs your sound card to change to a Bank which contains no instruments (eg, Bank 56). Most sound cards do not recognize this controller, however if you are using the Yamaha SoftSynth, it is recognized, and this is the problem. In addition, your sound module may remain in this condition until you re-boot your system or send a GM Reset to the card.

If you must have the file, the solution requires the use of a software sequencer in which you can open the midi file. You then add a SysEx message to the file that will force all sound cards to ignore the Bank Select which is included in one or more tracks of the file. This SysEx message is only 6 bytes. You can download gm_on.syx if you do not have it.

If you do not have sequencer software, send me the file as an attachment to an e-mail and I will do this for you and return it.
