"WHEN JOHNNY COMES MARCHING HOME"
(Sequenced by Barry Taylor)
WELCOME to a page devoted to midis of the songs of the mid-nineteenth century, the period of time in the history of the United States which defined what it would become as a nation, a definition forged in the bloody struggle of the Civil War. The soldiers in camp and the regimental bands of the armies on both sides sang and played these songs throughout the War.

CREDITS

Thanks go to Barry Taylor for sequencing "When Johnny Comes Marching Home," "I'm A Good Old Rebel," "Bonnie Blue Flag," "When This Cruel War Is Over," "The Girl I Left Behind," "Aura Lee," "Lorena" and "All Quiet On The Potomac." Barry maintains a superb folk music site at: Taylor's Traditional Tunebook. Thanks also to Les Gorven for sequencing "Marching Through Georgia," to Gary Wachtel for a superb version of "Battle Hymn of the Republic" and to R.Gary("Doc") Allen for his stirring bluegrass version of "Dixie." Les, Gary Wachtel and Gary Allen maintain studios at The Midi Studio Consortium, a unique and diversified midi site which is well worth the visit. My gratitude as well to a new friend, Benjamin Tubb, who sequenced "Battle of Shiloh's Hill" and "Brass Mounted Army." If you'd like to listen to some more of the forgotten songs of the Civil War era done by Ben, CLICK HERE. "Sometimes I Feel Like a Motherless Child" and "Rally 'Round TheFlag, Boys" were done by Roy Wingwald and Gerald B. Ross, respectively.
