COMPOSITION & SEQUENCE BY BRANDON SPANGLER

Second Place Golden Note Award

SECOND PLACE (TIE) CONTEST WINNER - APRIL 1999

ORCHESTRAL   CRAY and NICHOS' THEME GM 3:11 66 K
A very sensitive work that portrays the story exactly as depicted by Brandon.

  • INSPIRATION FOR THIS COMPOSITION:
  • "The piece is part of a much larger work based on the events and characters in the novel "Children of the Jedi", by Barbara Hambly. Cray Mingla, a brilliant scientist, has spent her entire existence in an attempt to create a synthetic body that could house the life force of her deceased husband, Nichos.
The music represents both intese love and sever loss and the struggle of both in Cray Mingla's soul.  She is compelled to love her significang other, even though deep down she knows Nichos is but a cruel copy of the man she loved.
There are three main musical ides.  First is Cray and her struggle, a kind of lullaby that is the major theme.  The descending eight-note melody performed by the solo instruments represent the "robot" copy of Nichos.  The middle section is the love that once was, and the question of it's continued existence. "
